Telkom University\u2019s Concrete Step in Community Empowerment<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Telkom University<\/a>, in collaboration with the Social Responsibility Center (SRC) of Telkom Indonesia, has implemented a community-based renewable energy project through the program \u201cUtilization of Livestock Waste as a Renewable Energy Source.\u201d This initiative was implemented in Boyolali as a real contribution to community empowerment and environmental sustainability. The project features the installation of four biodigester units functioning as biomass power generators. These biodigesters convert organic waste\u2014mainly livestock manure and household residues\u2014through anaerobic fermentation to produce biogas, which is then transformed into electricity to support local activities and lighting needs. The project is led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Jangkung Raharjo, M.T., as the Lead Innovator from the Center of Excellence for Sustainable Energy and Climate Change<\/a> (CoE SECC), Telkom University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Biodigester?<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The choice of biodigester as an alternative energy solution is based on its effectiveness in transforming organic waste into a sustainable and renewable energy source. This technology not only reduces waste volume and greenhouse gas emissions but also supports the principle of a circular economy, where waste is converted into valuable resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project Timeline and Progress<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The project began with an initial site survey in July 2025, focusing on the assessment of livestock waste potential and infrastructure readiness. Construction officially started in early October 2025, with ongoing work on the mixing tank, which serves as a pre-treatment unit before waste enters the biodigester system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Function and Real Impact<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The implementation of these four biodigester units has already delivered significant positive impacts. This program encourages energy self-sufficiency and improves the welfare of local communities around the implementation sites. Going forward, Telkom University<\/a> plans to expand the application of environmentally friendly technology as a form of commitment to sustainable development and community service based on green technology innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
